This Mid Century Modern inspired Christmas tree pillow cover was pieced together and quilted on our c.1955 turquoise Sewmor sewing machine using excellent quality Kona cotton fabric and a coordinating print for the tree trunk and pillow back. All the horizontal embroidery was done using the automatic fancy stiches on my 1959 Universal sewing machine (pink one) and my 1962 Elna Supermatic. The stars were also completed on my 1959 Universal, however those were done manually. 3 available.
Unlike most pillows made with upholstery fabric, quilted pillow covers have a soft layer of fluffy cotton batting in between the outer cotton patchwork and the feather pillow inside to create a nice texture and plushness you actually like to lounge around on. Also, since they are 100% cotton they can be washed and dried at home. Just open the invisible zipper on the bottom, take out the feather insert, close the zipper and wash on delicate. If you don't like the crinkly fresh-out-of-the-dryer look, press them out with a hot steam iron. These pillow covers were washed, dried, and pressed before photographing.
All items made by Houston + Scott are produced using a small fleet of vintage sewing machines- This pillow on our 1955 Sewmor 620, pictured. Read more about our collection of vintage sewing machines here.
